Monterrey Leads Mexico in IMMEX Exports
Monterrey continues to strengthen its position as one of Mexico’s leading manufacturing and export hubs, with the region ranking as top exporter of manufactures through the IMMEX program. During the first five months of 2026, companies operating under the program in the region exported +US$17 billion, representing an 8.9% increase compared with the same period of 2025 and around 16% of Mexico’s total IMMEX exports.
The results highlight the scale of Monterrey’s export-oriented manufacturing ecosystem and its role within North American supply chains. The IMMEX program allows companies to temporarily import inputs and equipment for manufacturing or services that are subsequently exported, supporting Mexico’s integration into international production networks.

A Growing Export Manufacturing Base
The performance of IMMEX exports has been accompanied by continued growth in employment and the number of companies operating under the program in Monterrey. Employment reached a national high in May 2026, with IMMEX companies employing 400,998 people, and generating 6,461 new direct jobs. This growth accounted for nearly half of the 13,001 new positions created nationally during the period. In addition, by May 2026, the region had 740 IMMEX establishments, increasing ~16.3% from the 636 companies present in 2008.
The combination of export growth, employment, and an expanding industrial base reflects the depth of Monterrey’s manufacturing ecosystem. Key activities within the region include the production of computer and communication equipment and electronic components, electrical equipment, and transportation equipment.

A Strategic Platform for Global Supply Chains
The strength of Monterrey’s IMMEX ecosystem is particularly relevant as companies continue to adapt their supply chains and seek competitive manufacturing locations in North America. The region combines an established supplier base, manufacturing capabilities, skilled talent, and proximity to the United States, allowing companies to serve international markets while operating within an integrated North American production network.
With more than US$17 billion in IMMEX exports during the first five months of 2026, Monterrey demonstrates the scale of its export-oriented manufacturing capabilities. For companies evaluating Mexico as a manufacturing destination, the region’s growing IMMEX activity provides an established platform for production, exports, and integration into North American supply chains.
