The LEGO Group announced a US$400 million investment to expand its manufacturing complex in Ciénega de Flores, in the Monterrey region. Presented on September 24, the project will add 62,000 square meters of infrastructure and create approximately 1,300 jobs by 2029, strengthening the company’s capacity to serve markets across the Americas.
 

New Infrastructure to Support Growing Demand

The expansion includes a new packaging building and a fully automated, high-capacity warehouse. These facilities will strengthen the coordination of manufacturing, packaging and distribution as LEGO responds to growing global demand. The project is expected to increase the complex’s total production capacity by 35%.
 

Construction of the new areas is scheduled to begin in early 2027 and conclude in 2029. Once completed, the expansion will increase the complex’s built area from approximately 148,080 to 210,080 square meters. The site carries out several stages of LEGO’s manufacturing process, including molding, processing, decoration and packaging.
 

A New Stage in LEGO’s Regional Growth

LEGO has operated in the region since 2008, progressively expanding the facility into its largest manufacturing complex worldwide. The latest announcement follows a separate expansion announced in 2023 and completed in 2026, which added approximately 59,000 square meters and around 900 employees.
 

The new project will further expand the workforce, which currently includes approximately 7,300 employees. The additional positions are expected to be created gradually as the investment advances, taking the complex’s workforce to approximately 8,600 people upon completion.
 

Opportunities for the Local Supply Chain

The expansion also has implications for suppliers. More than 90% of the operation’s purchases are made locally, and additional manufacturing capacity will require suppliers to grow alongside the facility. Potential demand extends to materials used in toy production, as well as packaging, logistics and other industrial services.
 

For Monterrey, the investment reinforces the importance of supporting companies beyond their initial establishment. LEGO’s successive expansions reflect the region’s ability to accommodate larger and more technologically advanced operations, drawing on skilled workers, logistics infrastructure and an established manufacturing ecosystem to support long-term industrial growth.
