Equinix Invests USD $81 Million in New Data Center in Monterrey
Equinix has announced a major expansion in Mexico with the opening of a new data center facility (MO2) in Monterrey, Nuevo León. The investment of USD $81 million marks a key step in strengthening the region’s digital infrastructure and positioning Monterrey as a leading hub for advanced connectivity and industrial innovation.
Located in the city of Apodaca within the Monterrey metropolitan area, the new facility will add more than 720 cabinets in its first phase and is designed to address growing demand from corporations, content providers, and platforms requiring high-performance digital infrastructure and AI-ready architecture.
Executives from Equinix emphasized Monterrey’s strategic importance, citing its strong industrial base, connectivity to the United States, and growing role in Latin America’s digital economy. “Monterrey is a region with enormous potential, where industry, innovation and connectivity converge,” said Amet Novillo, Managing Director of Equinix Mexico.

The project’s total planned investment may reach approximately USD $189 million once fully completed, further underscoring Equinix’s long-term commitment to Mexico’s digital transformation.
With this investment, Monterrey reinforces its position not only as a manufacturing and nearshoring powerhouse but also as a key node for digital infrastructure, cloud services, and data-driven industries — all essential for the next generation of global industrial and technology ecosystems.
Invest Monterrey celebrates this milestone and reaffirm its support for multinational companies seeking to establish and expand operations in the region. The state’s well-developed logistics, energy, water and digital connectivity systems continue to attract high-impact investment that spans both industry and technology.
