Korean Company Dongkook Expands Facility in Monterrey
Korean companies keep growing in Monterrey, which has been the leading destination for multinationals from the Asian country since 2015, when KIA and Hyundai decided to establish operations. This has paved the way for Korean Company Dongkook to expand a facility in Monterrey
Korean Company Dongkook has announced the completion of its industrial plant expansion in Monterrey, Nuevo León, following a $30 million USD investment. The company, which supplies auto parts to major brands like Hyundai and Kia, has expanded the facility by 14,720 square meters. This will accommodate increased production for newer car models. The expansion is expected to enhance production efficiency through automation and modernized production lines. This includes advanced injection molding machines, with an anticipated increase in production value to $72 million USD in annual sales. Korean Company Dongkook Expands Facility in Monterrey
Established in 2017, the KBI Dongkook facility is on the same site as the Kia assembly plant. KBI Dongkook manufactures plastic injection parts such as bumpers, headlights, and taillights for the North and South American markets. The expanded facility will support the production of parts for seven new Hyundai and Kia models. This aligns with the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in Nuevo León.
This strategic expansion responds to the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act. The act incentivizes EV production in North America, including Canada and Mexico. Expected sales from the expanded plant are projected to reach $47.2 million USD in 2025, marking a 55% increase from this year.
KBI Dongkook is poised to play a crucial role in the EV production market in Mexico and beyond. CEO Kim Yong-hee emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and growth. The company aims to lead the global auto parts industry through continued investment in research and development.
