Ternium Begins Cold Rolling & Galvanizing Operations in Nuevo León Advancing $4 Billion USD Expansion
Global steel producer Ternium has commenced operations of its cold rolling mill and galvanizing line at the Pesquería Industrial Center in Nuevo León, marking a major milestone in its $4 billion USD industrial expansion project in the region.
The new production lines are part of the third phase of Ternium’s long-term investment in Mexico, strengthening the company’s downstream manufacturing capabilities and enhancing its ability to serve industries such as automotive, construction, appliances, and industrial equipment with high-quality steel products.

Major Expansion in Steel Manufacturing
Ternium’s expansion at the Pesquería site includes:
– Cold rolling mill, enabling production of advanced steel products
– Galvanizing line, enhancing corrosion resistance for industrial use
– Additional finishing lines and decapado processes now in operation
These additions complete a significant portion of the company’s downstream expansion — increasing value-added production capacity and reinforcing supply chain resilience for regional and global markets.

Strategic Importance for Regional Industry
The investment represents one of the largest industrial projects in Monterrey’s history and underscores Ternium’s confidence in Mexico’s manufacturing ecosystem and strategic location within the USMCA region.
Beyond cold rolling and galvanizing, the broader expansion plan includes construction of a state-of-the-art steel mill with direct reduced iron (DRI) and electric arc furnace (EAF) capabilities — designed to produce approximately 2.6 million tons of steel annually with advanced sustainability features and low emissions.

Economic Impact and Future Outlook
Ternium’s investment in Pesquería has already contributed to the generation of thousands of jobs and positioned Monterrey as a strategic hub for steel production in North America. The expanded facilities will support nearshoring trends and allow Ternium to supply sophisticated steel products that meet the evolving requirements of regional manufacturers under the USMCA framework.
As the project continues to progress, the fully integrated steel complex is expected to further enhance Mexico’s competitiveness in the global steel market while bolstering local industrial capacity and technological advancement.
