Volvo to Launch New $1 Billion USD Plant in Nuevo León by 2026

Volvo Group is set to begin operations at its new heavy-duty vehicle manufacturing plant in Nuevo León by summer 2026, marking one of the most significant industrial investments in Mexico’s automotive sector.

Located in the municipality of Ciénega de Flores, the facility is designed to become Volvo’s largest plant globally for the production of heavy trucks, supporting demand across North America and beyond.

The project initially launched with an investment of approximately $750 million USD, with projections indicating the total investment could reach $1 billion USD as the plant scales operations.

Once operational, the plant will manufacture heavy-duty vehicles for brands such as Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks, strengthening the company’s production capacity to serve key markets including the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Latin America.

The new facility is expected to play a critical role in regional industrial development, with projections of around 2,000 direct jobs by 2030, while also attracting a growing network of suppliers establishing operations in Nuevo León.

This investment reinforces Nuevo León’s position as a leading hub for automotive manufacturing, nearshoring, and advanced industrial development, leveraging its strategic location, skilled workforce, and integrated supply chains.

With construction progressing as planned, the Volvo plant represents a major milestone in Mexico’s industrial growth, further consolidating Monterrey as a key destination for global manufacturing investment.
