New Medical & Health Tourism Cluster Positions Monterrey as a Global Innovation Hub
Monterrey has taken a major step in strengthening its leadership in the healthcare sector with the launch of the Health and Medical Tourism Cluster, known as Clustourmed. This strategic initiative aims to bring together hospitals, universities, businesses, and tourism organizations under a collaborative model focused on medical innovation and attracting international investment.

Supported by the state’s Ministry of Economy, led by Betsabé Rocha Nieto, the cluster seeks to position Monterrey as a national and international reference in highly specialized medical services and health tourism. The region boasts robust infrastructure, skilled talent, and high-quality medical services that attract patients from across the globe.
The healthcare sector in Monterrey employs over 38,000 people and includes more than 6,000 specialists, excelling in fields such as biomedicine, telemedicine, and diagnostic equipment. Additionally, health tourism generates an estimated $10 billion USD annually in Mexico, with over 80,000 patients visiting the state each year.
At the cluster’s official launch, an investment exceeding $500 million USD was announced for the coming months, focused on new technologies, international medical certifications, and attracting biomedical companies. This investment will also benefit small and medium-sized enterprises in the health sector, such as clinics and laboratories, enhancing their operations, training, and connections with key stakeholders.

Clustourmed represents a strong public-private synergy aimed at strengthening Monterrey’s health ecosystem and promoting the region as a preferred destination for medical tourism. This initiative not only boosts the local economy but also fosters technological development and continuous improvement of health services in the state.
