Volvo marked a major milestone on October 15, 2024, with the groundbreaking of its new $700 million USD plant in Monterrey, Mexico. The event, held at the GP Industrial North Park, celebrated the start of construction on this advanced facility. Volvo’s new plant will produce heavy-duty trucks for the Volvo and Mack brands, supplying markets throughout North and Latin America.
Distinguished Guests Attend the Ceremony
Nuevo León’s Governor Samuel García, a supporter of the project, attended the event. He was joined by notable figures, including Miguel Quiroga, Mayor of Cienega de Flores; Gunnar Alden, Ambassador of Sweden to Mexico; Jens Holtinger, Executive Vice President of Volvo Group Trucks Operations; and Stephen Roy, Chairman of Volvo Group North America and President of Mack Trucks.
Facility Details and Future Operations
The new facility will span over 170,000 square meters and handle full truck assembly and painting, ensuring on-site completion of all vehicles. Scheduled to open in 2026, it will supply Volvo and Mack trucks to the U.S. and Canada and serve Mack Trucks in Mexico and Latin America. The plant is set to create over 2,500 direct jobs, boosting Monterrey’s economy and labor market.
