Hyundai MOBIS Announces $700 Million USD Investment in Monterrey to Produce Batteries and Brakes for EVs
The global automotive component supplier Hyundai MOBIS is launching a major expansion in Monterrey, committing $700 million USD to establish new manufacturing operations dedicated to producing batteries and brake systems for electric vehicles (EVs).
The planned facility is set to generate more than 4,000 direct jobs, reinforcing the regions’s role as a strategic destination for the automotive value chain and advanced manufacturing. With an investment of this size, Hyundai MOBIS positions the region as a key location for its next-generation EV component manufacturing in North America.

During the announcement, company officials highlighted that the investment aligns with both global electrification trends and Mexico’s growing importance in automotive manufacturing under the USMCA framework. The facility will combine battery-pack assembly with brake system production and will integrate innovation in mobility, sustainability, and smart manufacturing.
The investment further underscores Monterrey’s competitive advantages: well-developed infrastructure, a large pool of skilled workers, and strong connectivity to U.S. markets. Regional authorities emphasized the continued confidence of automotive firms in the state, particularly those seeking near-shoring opportunities, value-chain integration, and high-tech operations.

This latest project contributes to the diversification of Mexico’s auto-parts manufacturing ecosystem, which typically accounts for more than 30 % of national auto-parts production. Automobile industry analysts note that adding EV-component manufacturing elevates Monterrey’s profile in global supply chains and signals a shift toward deeper industrial specialization beyond traditional assembly.
Invest Monterrey congratulates Hyundai MOBIS on this strategic milestone and reiterates its commitment to supporting multinational firms through project implementation and long-term growth in the region. With this investment, the region further solidifies its standing as one of Mexico’s premier hubs for automotive innovation and international investment.
