Hyundai WIA Invests $35 Million USD in Nuevo León to Produce Hybrid Engines

Hyundai WIA has announced a $35 million USD investment in Nuevo León to expand its manufacturing capabilities and begin the production of hybrid engines, reinforcing the region’s role in the future of automotive electrification.

The project will be carried out at the company’s plant in Pesquería, where Hyundai WIA will manufacture 1.6-liter hybrid engines for use in next-generation vehicles. These engines will be supplied exclusively to Kia for the production of hybrid models, including the upcoming K4 hybrid.

Production is scheduled to begin in 2026, marking a significant milestone as it represents the first time Hyundai WIA produces hybrid powertrains, expanding beyond its traditional manufacturing of internal combustion engine components.

The facility is expected to reach a production capacity of up to 200,000 hybrid engines annually, supporting growing demand in North America and Europe as automakers accelerate the transition toward more efficient and lower-emission vehicles.

This investment aligns with broader industry trends, as global manufacturers respond to increasing consumer demand for hybrid vehicles—particularly in the United States—while strengthening regional supply chains through nearshoring strategies.

Hyundai WIA’s expansion further consolidates Nuevo León’s position as a key hub for advanced automotive manufacturing and next-generation mobility technologies, supported by its skilled workforce, industrial infrastructure, and strong integration with global OEMs.
