Monterrey Accounts for 16.7% of Mexico’s New Formal Jobs in 2026
Monterrey continues to demonstrate the strength of its economy and business ecosystem accounting for 16.7% of all new formal jobs created in Mexico between January and July 2026. During the first seven months of the year, the state added 40,699 formal jobs, compared with 31,100 during the same period in 2025.
The figure means that approximately one out of every six new formal jobs created in Mexico during the period was generated in the region, highlighting the continued expansion of companies operating in the Monterrey region and the strength of its labor market.
Monterrey Continues to Generate Employment
According to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Mexico recorded 243,078 new formal jobs between January and July 2026, of which 40,699 were generated in Monterrey. The region added 9,599 more jobs than during the same period of 2025.
The results reinforce Monterrey’s position as one of Mexico’s most important centers for employment, manufacturing, and business expansion, supported by a diversified economy and a strong concentration of national and international companies.

Strong Employment Performance Despite a Challenging National Environment
Monterrey’s labor market also demonstrated resilience during July. While Mexico registered a loss of 19,550 formal jobs during the month, the region added 500 new positions.
At the end of July, the state had 1,975,321 workers registered with the IMSS, maintaining one of the largest formal employment bases in the country.
This performance highlights the ability of companies in the region to continue creating employment opportunities despite a more challenging economic environment.
Monterrey Outpaces the National Average in Employment Generation
The region’s performance becomes even more significant when adjusted for population.
Between January and July, Monterrey generated 6,528 new jobs per million inhabitants, compared with a national average of 1,853. This means the state generated more than three times as many new jobs per million inhabitants as Mexico as a whole during the period.
The strong employment performance reflects the continued expansion of industries that have made Monterrey one of Mexico’s most competitive business destinations.

Investment and Business Expansion Support Job Creation
Employment growth is closely connected to the continued arrival and expansion of companies throughout the Monterrey region.
The area’s industrial ecosystem includes major operations in:
– Automotive and electromobility
– Advanced manufacturing
– Electronics
– Home appliances
– Aerospace
– Logistics and distribution
– Industrial technology
– Energy and infrastructure
The continued expansion of these industries creates demand for engineers, technicians, operators, logistics professionals, and other specialized talent, strengthening Monterrey’s position as a center for high-value manufacturing and international business.
A Strong Talent Base for Global Companies
Access to skilled talent remains one of Monterrey’s most important competitive advantages. The region’s large industrial workforce provides companies with the human capital required to establish and scale increasingly sophisticated operations.
As manufacturing becomes more technology-driven, Monterrey’s combination of engineering expertise, technical talent, universities, and established industrial companies creates an environment capable of supporting both traditional manufacturing and next-generation industries.

Reinforcing Monterrey’s Position as an Investment Destination
The creation of 40,699 formal jobs during the first seven months of 2026 demonstrates the continued confidence companies have in Monterrey as a location for investment and expansion. With the region generating 16.7% of Mexico’s new formal jobs and more than 1.97 million formal workers registered with the IMSS, Monterrey continues to offer companies access to a deep and growing talent base.
As global companies continue to diversify their supply chains and expand their North American operations, Monterrey’s combination of talent, infrastructure, industrial capabilities, and investment opportunities positions the region for continued economic growth and job creation.
