Monterrey Becomes First Region to Integrate Data Centers into an Industrial Cluster

Monterrey became the first region in Mexico to formally integrate data centers into an existing industrial cluster after the Nuevo León Home Appliance Cluster (CLELAC) approved an expansion of its corporate purpose. The decision connects the home appliance, cooling and data center industries, creating opportunities to apply established manufacturing capabilities to the development of digital infrastructure.

Existing Industrial Capabilities Support a New Ecosystem

The three industries share technologies, technical talent and suppliers, providing a foundation for collaboration. Capabilities developed for home appliances and cooling systems can support data centers, particularly in areas such as thermal management, electrical infrastructure, automation and advanced manufacturing.

Monterrey already hosts companies active in these value chains, including Vertiv, Schneider Electric, ABB, Siemens, Trane, Carrier, Daikin, Eaton, GE Vernova and Honeywell. Their regional presence provides a starting point for connecting established industrial expertise with the requirements of data center projects.

CLELAC’s expanded scope creates a framework for bringing these activities together. Rather than developing an entirely separate supplier ecosystem, the initiative seeks to build connections between companies whose products, processes and knowledge can serve complementary markets.

New Diversification Opportunities for Suppliers

For local suppliers, the integration opens a path to explore opportunities beyond their traditional customer base. Companies already serving home appliance and cooling manufacturers may find applications for their capabilities within data center supply chains, subject to the technical requirements of each project.

The initiative also places supplier development and talent at the center of the discussion. Attracting investment is one part of building a new industry; connecting projects with qualified businesses and skilled workers is essential for establishing operations and developing lasting value chains.

Connecting Monterrey with Mexico’s Data Center Growth

The Mexican Data Center Association (MEXDC) projects approximately US$83 billion in investment in Mexico’s data center industry between 2026 and 2031. This development is expected to generate more than 98,000 construction jobs and over 35,000 operational jobs nationwide.

Against this backdrop, CLELAC’s decision positions Monterrey’s existing industrial ecosystem to participate in an expanding market. By connecting manufacturing, cooling and digital infrastructure, the region is creating additional opportunities for its suppliers and talent to contribute to the next stage of industrial development.
