Invest Monterrey Hosts Business Talks on the Impact of the USMCA Review on the Automotive Industry

Invest Monterrey hosted Business Talks: Impacto de la Revisión del T-MEC en la Industria Automotriz, bringing together key stakeholders from Mexico’s automotive and auto parts industries to discuss the challenges and opportunities emerging from the review of the USMCA and its potential implications for North American automotive supply chains.

The event brought together companies from the automotive and auto parts sectors, businesses from related industries, public officials, chambers of commerce, and regional industry clusters. By bringing these stakeholders together, Invest Monterrey created a space for companies and industry leaders to exchange perspectives on the changing trade environment and explore how the sector can adapt to the next stage of North American economic integration.

Understanding the New USMCA Landscape

The agenda featured the participation of Manuel Montoya, General Director of the Nuevo León Automotive Cluster (CLAUT), as well as a presentation by Fabiola Aguilar, General Director of the Coahuila Automotive Industry Cluster (CIAC). Their participation provided a broader regional perspective on the importance of the automotive industry across northern Mexico and highlighted the value of collaboration between the region’s automotive ecosystems.

The program also included the conference “The Automotive Industry Facing the New USMCA Scenario,” presented by Lidia Luévano, Director of Foreign Trade at J.A. Del Río. The session examined the implications of the changing trade framework for automotive companies and the adjustments that businesses may need to consider as the USMCA review progresses.

The discussion continued with the panel “Business Experiences in the North American Automotive Supply Chain,” featuring Lourdes Cobos, General Manager of BorgWarner Ramos Arizpe, and Martha Cabrera, Director of Institutional and Government Relations at Yazaki Group. Their participation provided first-hand perspectives from companies operating within North American automotive supply chains and offered insights into how businesses are navigating the evolving trade environment.

The event concluded with a keynote presentation by Gabriel Padilla, General Director of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA), who provided a national perspective on the automotive and auto parts industries and their role in strengthening regional production and supply chains.

Turning Trade Changes Into Opportunities

Beyond analyzing the potential challenges associated with the USMCA review, the event focused on identifying ways companies can capitalize on the changing trade environment. New trade rules can create opportunities for greater regional sourcing, supplier development, and deeper integration among companies operating across Mexico, the United States, and Canada. For Monterrey and northern Mexico, strengthening domestic capabilities and expanding supplier networks can help the region respond to evolving requirements while capturing new opportunities within North American automotive supply chains.

These dynamics are particularly relevant for Monterrey’s position as a national and regional hub for mobility and electromobility. The continued development of automotive capabilities, supplier networks, advanced manufacturing, and talent can help the region respond to the industry’s transition while strengthening its role within North American production networks.

Connecting Companies Across the Ecosystem

Following the presentations, Invest Monterrey hosted a networking session where its members had the opportunity to connect directly with participating companies and industry representatives. The session provided a platform to exchange perspectives, identify potential areas of collaboration, and establish business connections across the automotive ecosystem.

Through Business Talks, Invest Monterrey provides its members with a platform to stay informed about international developments and global economic and trade dynamics that may affect their operations and business decisions. By bringing together experts, companies, industry organizations, and public institutions, these sessions combine timely insights with opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and business development, helping companies better understand changing conditions and prepare for developments shaping Monterrey’s position within the North American economy.
