Monterrey to Strengthen Electrical Infrastructure with New CFE Projects
Monterrey will receive MX$2.165 billion in CFE investment for electricity distribution infrastructure. The investment includes the construction of four new substations, adding 140 MVA of capacity, as well as the expansion of 10 existing substations and the modernization of distribution networks.
In addition, the state and federal governments will allocate MX$6.719 billion to six transmission projects, while Monterrey will invest an additional MX$1 billion in mobile electrical stations. Together, these projects will expand the region’s capacity to meet growing electricity demand and strengthen the infrastructure supporting industrial activity.

Supporting Industrial Growth
The new infrastructure is expected to improve the reliability and capacity of electricity supply in areas experiencing strong industrial growth. In particular, CFE will strengthen service in PesquerÃa, where companies such as KIA and Ternium continue to expand, as well as in the Colombia highway area, where border crossings are projected to increase from around 8,000 to 15,000–16,000 per year.
The transmission projects will also incorporate new transformers, capacitor banks, grid modernization, and smart-grid technology, further strengthening the electrical network serving the region.
Four New Substations
The four new substations are part of a broader CFE distribution program comprising 438 projects for 2025–2029. The substations represent MX$448 million in investment and will add 140 MVA of additional capacity.
By expanding electricity availability and reliability, these projects will strengthen the infrastructure needed to support industrial operations, future manufacturing projects, and logistics growth in Monterrey, reinforcing the region’s capacity to accommodate continued industrial development.
